Corruption and Mismanagement: The EIC was plagued by endemic corruption and mismanagement. Directors often appointed employees in India for personal transactions, which was outside the scope of employment and breached fiduciary duties.

Human Rights Issues: The company's actions in India had devastating impacts on the local population. The company's focus on profit maximization led to the exploitation of Indian resources and the imposition of heavy taxes, contributing to famines like the Great Bengal famine of 1770.

Legal and Ethical Issues: The company's activities, such as the illegal sale of opium to China, led to conflicts and wars, including the First and Second Opium Wars. These actions were often at the expense of local populations and other European competitors.

Financial Instability: Despite frequent government intervention, the company faced recurring financial problems. It was eventually dissolved in 1874 due to its vestigial and obsolete status after the British Crown assumed direct control over India.
